John Balsley was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1944 and educated at Ohio Northern University, BA 1967 and Northern Illinois University, MFA 1969. He lives and works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and collects contemporary folk art. Balsley sculptures explore the relationship between man and machine and have been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Major collections include: the Nelson Atkins Museum, Omaha Nebraska and the Des Moines Art Center, Iowa. He has received two National Endowment for the Arts grants in 1972 and 1978 and a grant from Lewis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. | |||||||||
