Bob Beauchamp was born in Denver, Colorado on November 19, 1923.
As a gunner in the US Navy during WWII, he traveled around the world one and one half times. In 1947 he returned to Denver University and in 1949 completed his BFA at Cranbrook Art Academy. After seeing an exhibition of Hans Hoffmann's students work, he traveled by motorbike to Provincetown in order to study with Hoffmann. He moved to New York City where he became an active participant in the New York School art scene and a regular at the Cedar Street bar. Selected public collections include: the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Joseph H. Hirshorn Museum, Washington DC and the Denver Museum of Art. Important awards include; the National Endowment for the Arts in 1966 and 1985, the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 1974, and the Gottlieb Foundation Grant in 1992.
