| Stuart Diamond was born in Brooklyn, New York
and received his BFA from the Pratt Institute in 1963. He also attended the New York University graduate school in 1967. Stuart has taught at Bennington College, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Parsons School of Design. Known as a constructionist artist, Diamond collects pieces of wood, broken toys, perforated boards, wire mesh, fabric, metal, all sorts of cast off objects from the streets and brings them back to his studio. These are the raw materials for Diamond's work, although only a small proportion of them find their way into his constructions. Major awards include: the National Endowment for the Arts (2), the Guggenheim Fellowship and the CAPS grant for painting. Major collections include: the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
