| Mary Frank was born in London, England in 1933.
She lives and works in "West Beth", New York City, an artists residence for only qualified tenants. Her finest work is in ceramics as Hayden Herrera writes: "Frank drapes clay as if it were heavy silk and out of the clay come fragmented goddess figures". Recently she has done paintings and drawings as well. Selected public collections include: the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the Joseph H. Hirshorn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum. Selected awards include: the Joan Mitchell Grant award in 1995, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters in 1984, the Guggenheim award in 1963 and the CAPS grant in 1973.
