FigurativeExpressionism.com - Art Gallery - Seventh Avenue Messiah by Jay Milder

Title:  Seventh Avenue Messiah (1970)

oil on canvas - 70"H x 81"W

Biography:

Jay Milder was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 12, 1934.  He attended the University of Nebraska, studied at the Sorbonne and was assistant to Ossip Zadkine and Andre L'Hote in Paris.  One of the original organizers of the Rhino Horn artists, Jay Milder states that "these painters, specifically within their unexplained allegory, kind of baffle the mind.  It's not a specific this or that".  Jay's work in one man shows has been exhibited in over fifty galleries and Museums as far away as Sweden and recently in Brazil.  He has taught in almost a dozen institutions including the City College of New York, where his "Running Man" sculpture earned him a position immediately.  Milder has gone through at least six different periods in his work including the famous subway series with biblical characters on board.  Once he accomplishes a stylistic goal, he moves on to a new imagery and technique.
