FigurativeExpressionism.com - Art Gallery - Self Portrait: Genie of the Great Train Disaster by Charles Parness

Title:  Self Portrait: Genie of the Great Train Disaster (1984)

oil on canvas - 60"H x 40"W

Biography:

Charles Parness was born on New Year's Day, 1945.  He studied art at New York University and earned his MFA at the Pratt Institute.  He lives and works in New York City.  His work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions and group exhibitions throughout the country.  Parness has caught the attention of the critics and no wonder; his face is literally in all his paintings and they are most unusual self portraits in equally unusual settings.  Laced with comedy, irony and social awareness they are a delight to the minds eye.  His ego is involved in every day situations which require compassion and Freudian interpretation of his good humor, tolerance and understanding.  His painterly quality and brash palette are cornerstones for his sensitively and insight.
